Don’t Write a Poem About Rape

June 11, 2008 by harrietsdaughter

Powerful story and poem by Julie Buffaloe-Yoder.

Thanks again, Julie. Will share with my students in the fall.

Wow! I did a search for poems about rape because I’m the Lit. Editor for this small Lit. Journal at the Community College I’m going to, and this woman submitted a piece about rape and the importance of it, but it doesn’t seem to fit; I thought her piece was too journalistic and I wanted to encourage her to write a poem or a short about the subject instead…I guess I can take comfort in my efforts now. Any suggestions on other poems about rape, or short stories? Also she wrote a piece about rap, and how it’s a valid art form and misunderstood, but again, too journalistic…any suggestions here?

Kind regards, and thanks for doing what you do!

    My best,
    Justin Walker
